In Otto e mezzo, Lilli Gruber’s daily deepening program, Lucio Caracciolo again takes stock of the duration of the bloody conflict in Ukraine and the goals of the Kremlin: “The war will end when the armed forces are exhausted. We will not be able to influence Putin’s will in any way.”
After 65 days of bombing and death, the world is experiencing an exhausting wait in both the military and diplomatic spheres. Russia’s escalation is undisputed, which makes Putin’s plan all the less clear. Caracciolo, guest at La7 talks on Friday April 29, explained the urgency of analyzing Russia’s strategy: “It would be interesting to understand where Russia is going and regulate us accordingly. The invasion of Ukraine corresponds to a decision of a historical nature: Moscow wants to be the champion of the anti-West”.
For Washington, the conflict will last months and Europe will support the resistance. Caracciolo expresses his helplessness: “The Kremlin boss wants to polarize some powers around him against the American empire. I have many doubts that Russia can stop with declarations of principle or with the good will of the pacifists. According to the Limes director, peace is still a distant mirage: “Peace comes from two. We can lead the West into negotiations or a series of ceasefires. It is impossible to end all hostilities for the time being”. Caracciolo then shattered all illusion and announced a partition of the affected areas: “The terrain tells us that this war will end when the armed forces are no longer able to do so. The conquered territories will belong to those who have made them their own. We will then negotiate for decades to understand who has the right to hold that territory or not.
