The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, which has been on the market since 2020, slowly found time. The South Korean manufacturer, already in its fourth generation of foldable smartphones, is stepping up its efforts to bring foldable devices to the market. Behind it, the Chinese brands are chaining the announcements, but none – or almost – have really tried their luck outside of China. HUAWEI tried it with the P50 Pocket, but without Google services it can’t outshine Samsung in Europe. We’ve also seen Motorola’s RAZR (2022), a retro-tech folder that doesn’t dethrone the Z Flip4. With the Find N2 Flip, OPPO corrects the situation and finally offers the Galaxy Z Flip4 an opponent on French soil.
A turning point for the industry and for the manufacturer waiting for the launch of its second generation of foldable smartphones. Its first clamshell model comes with big ambitions, but can it really shake up the Galaxy Z Flip4?
characteristics
We start this comparison by offering you the complete technical data sheets of the Galaxy Z Flip4 and the Find N2 Flip. Note that the Samsung model has been available since August 2022. That of OPPO was formalized in China in December 2022 and is now arriving in Europe. There are about six months between the two models, so we’re sticking with an identical generation.

design
The two smartphones do not particularly shine with their originality. Even if the folding format is relatively new, the “flip” or clamshell design is far from new as it existed back in the 1990s and 2000s. The main curiosity is inside with the presence of a flexible screen.
The Galaxy Z Flip4 has the following dimensions: 165.2 x 71.9 x 6.9 (unfolded) and 84.9 x 71.9 x 15.9-17.1 mm (folded). It weighs 187 grams and offers a 1.9-inch external screen and a photo unit consisting of two sensors.
For its part, the Find N2 Flip has dimensions of 166.2 x 75.2 x 7.5 mm (unfolded) and 85.5 x 75.2 x 16 mm (folded). It weighs 191 grams and also has two photo sensors on the right side. Its external screen is 3.26 inches long.

The two models are relatively close, but there are some differences. Samsung chooses a small secondary screen, while OPPO doesn’t hide the “big” external screen of its Find N2 Flip. We also note that when folded, the OPPO model is slightly thinner than its competitor.
This difference is explained by the presence of a “waterdrop” type fold that prevents OPPO from leaving a space when closing the smartphone. Samsung offers a “U” shaped hinge that leaves a visible space between the two parts of the screen. To learn more about this difference, we invite you to read this article.
Finally, the two devices benefit from a construction based on glass and aluminum. The Galaxy Z Flip4 has an IPX8 rating, while the Find N2 Flip is satisfied with an IPX4 rating.

Screen
As mentioned above, the two manufacturers make opposing choices when it comes to the secondary screen. The Galaxy Z Flip4 makes do with a small 1.9-inch screen (AMOLED, 260×512 pixels) to display useful information and not have to open the smartphone every time. OPPO offers a completely different experience (3.26-inch, AMOLED, 382×720 pixels) as the portrait mode layout makes it easier to view notifications and take selfie photos. The Find N2 Flip is more practical, while Samsung has more design, choices that are not without impact on the user experience.
Both models offer a relatively similar experience, relying on a long and narrow screen. The slightly larger OPPO model (6.8 inches compared to 6.7 inches) is also less narrow and therefore closer to a so-called classic smartphone (21:9 format compared to 22:9 with Samsung). It’s difficult to really decide between these models that offer a comparable resolution (Full HD +) and use AMOLED technology. In both cases, the refresh rate increases up to 120 Hz.
On paper, OPPO’s model is brighter with a peak of 1,600 nits versus 1,200 nits for its opponent. In direct sunlight, the two devices remain bright and we notice that they are HDR10+ compatible.

On the other hand, there is a glaring difference between the two screens and it is a crucial element. With its “teardrop” shape, the Find N2 Flip has a much less visible crease than the Galaxy Z Flip4.

performance and software
Defy that style in this space with a duel between Qualcomm and MediaTek. Samsung uses a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 in its Galaxy Z Flip4, adding up to 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. In contrast, the OPPO Find N2 Flip offers a SoC Dimensity 9000+ flanked by 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage.
The two chips are comparable and we won’t see any real difference in everyday use. These smartphones are powerful enough to cope with all applications, even the most demanding ones like games. Note, however, that folding models are not designed as smartphones with impressive performance. The thin design complicates the process and cooling, a finding that applies to both devices.
Unlike folding books, these smartphones don’t offer a tablet experience. Once unfolded we are close to a classic model and quickly find our habits, whether with One UI 5.1 (Android 13) on the Galaxy Z Flip4 or ColorOS 13 (Android 13) on the Find N2 Flip.
The small advances are more on the external screen side, but functionalities remain limited. Few applications really take advantage of the folding format, it’s one of the areas where manufacturers can make improvements.

photo
Since their inception, clamshells have not been able to compete with the best camera phones on the market. This is still the case with the Find N2 Flip, which doesn’t offer as complete an experience as the Find X5 Pro; or the Galaxy Z Flip4 versus the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
On both, our models of the day ignore the telephoto lens. The photo unit of the OPPO smartphone includes a main sensor (IMX890, wide angle) with 50 megapixels (f/1.8) and an ultra wide angle with 8 megapixels (112°, f/2.2). Samsung has a main sensor with 12 megapixels (f/1.8) and an ultra-wide angle with 12 megapixels (f/2.2).

To get a better idea of the results, we invite you to take a look at our tests of these two devices (here and here). In summary, the Find N2 Flip uses its higher-resolution sensor to capture more detailed shots. The Chinese manufacturer’s MariSilicon-X processor helps him with this.
However, in low light and on the side of the ultra-wide-angle module, things go awry. The Galaxy Z Flip4 seems more comfortable than its competitor and therefore a bit more versatile.
For selfies, OPPO goes even further by equipping its device with a front sensor of 32 megapixels versus 10 megapixels for Samsung. For videos, Z Flip4 can record up to 4K at 60fps, while OPPO is limited to 4K at 30fps.
The front sensor allows 4K at 30 fps for Samsung, compared to Full HD at 30 fps for Samsung.

battery
OPPO stands out in this area by integrating a 4,300 mAh battery. A relatively large capacity for a foldable model, which brings the Find N2 Flip closer to traditional smartphones (5,000 mAh). Most notably, it performs better than the Galaxy Z Flip4, which makes do with a 3,700mAh battery.
Another difference is that the Chinese manufacturer offers faster wired charging at 44W. It also provides the power supply to take advantage of this fast charging. Far from offering comparable technology, Samsung is content with charging at 25 W. The Galaxy Z Flip4, on the other hand, is compatible with wireless charging (15 W) and reverse charging (4.5 W).

Price
By deciding to offer foldable clamshell models, manufacturers are trying to lower the price. We are now at the level of a premium smartphone with introductory prices around 1,000 euros.
Oppo Find N2 Flip at the best price Base price: €1,099
The OPPO Find N2 Flip has been on sale since February 15 for €1,099 compared to €1,109 for the Galaxy Z Flip4 when it was released. However, the Samsung model has been available for a few months (August 2022) and its price has come down over the weeks. It’s trading for less than $1,000 today, which can be an advantage.

Our opinion
With its Find N2 Flip, OPPO confirms that it has all the makings to shake up Samsung and its Galaxy Z Flip4. The folding smartphone from the Chinese manufacturer offers a tidy design and manages to stand out from the big competition despite the identical format. Its hinge allows you to completely close the smartphone and avoid the famous “folding”.
Both models offer excellent performance and four years of extensive updates. OPPO takes the lead in fast charging while Samsung offers wireless charging. The Galaxy Z Flip4 is also waterproof, while the Find N2 Flip is limited to IPX4 certification.
Finally, the main defects are the same and mainly concern the photo. Despite a retail price of over 1,000 euros, they ignore the telephoto lens and offer a more limited photo experience than “classic” smartphones. We can also regret that the autonomy does not compete with that of non-foldable devices.
If the two smartphones are not lacking in assets, the OPPO Find N2 Flip might be a bit late to eclipse Samsung. The manufacturer was waiting for the launch in early 2023, while the Galaxy Z Flip4 has been available for a few months. This difference does not affect the selling price, today to Samsung’s advantage.
