Ellen DeGeneres records final episode: ‘The Greatest Privilege of My Life’

She’s finally done with the day.

Ellen DeGeneres has taped the final episode of her eponymous talk show – two years after the hugely popular show was rocked by “toxic” workplace allegations.

The 64-year-old funny woman went to twitter After filming wrapped Thursday afternoon, she shared a snap of herself looking thoughtful on stage at the show.

“Today we taped the final episode of ‘The Ellen Show’ which airs May 26th,” the comedian captioned the picture.

Clearly thoughtful, she then recalled the 19 years of filming the show.

“When we started in 2003, the iPhone didn’t exist. There was no social media. Gay marriage was not legal. We watched the world change, sometimes for the better, sometimes not,” she wrote.

“But whatever happened, my goal has always been for the show to be a place where we can all come together and laugh for an hour,” the star continued. “Being invited into your life has been the greatest privilege of my life and has brought me incredible joy. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks.”

Fans flooded the comments section below the tweet, paying tribute to DeGeneres and her work.

“Thank you for making such an impact on the lives of so many people.” cooed a longtime viewer. “You are an amazing person. I’m crying because I know I won’t see you every day, but I know you’re up to something that’s going to knock our socks off. Love one another and be kind. What an incredible message!”

In fact, DeGeneres ended every episode of her show by imploring her fans to “be kind to one another.”

But the TV queen came under scrutiny back in March 2020 when comedian Kevin T. Porter posted on Twitterand asks followers to “share the craziest stories you’ve heard about Ellen [DeGeneres] to be mean.”

Four months later, “The Ellen Show” was accused of being a “toxic” place to work in a bombastic BuzzFeed article that included interviews with 11 former employees.

DeGeneres then offered an on-air apology, saying she was unaware of the alleged issues plaguing her production.

However, widespread reports were followed by a significant drop in sponsorship and ratings, with the star announcing in May 2021 that she was ending the series.

“As a creative person you have to be constantly challenged – and as great as this show is and as much fun as it is, it just isn’t a challenge anymore,” she said.

The star emotionally added that claims of a ‘toxic’ workplace ‘frankly devastated me. I would be lying if I said it wasn’t.”
