North Korea fired at least one unidentified ballistic missile toward the East Sea on Saturday (February 18), the South Korean army said, ahead of joint military exercises between Washington and Seoul to be held next week.
The day before, Pyongyang had threatened to use “unprecedented” force in response to joint military exercises between the United States and South Korea, calling them preparations for war.

The two allies will discuss responses to Pyongyang’s use of nuclear weapons during these exercises, which will take place next week in the American capital. If Washington and Seoul conduct these drills, “they will face strong and unprecedented countermeasures,” a spokesman for North Korea’s foreign ministry said in a statement.
