Austin is a Best Actor nominee at the BAFTA Awards for his incredible performance as Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s acclaimed biography.
He will compete against the likes of Colin Farrell, Brendan Fraser, Bill Nighy, Daryl McCormack and Paul Mescal for the coveted award.
Austin has already enjoyed incredible success in awards season, having won his first Golden Globe for his portrayal of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, while also being an Oscar contender.
And Austin has revealed he copied Ryan Gosling’s extreme weight gain method to fuel himself for his role as Elvis and drank microwave ice cream.
In a new interview with Variety, he explained, “I heard that when he wanted to make The Lovely Bones, he microwaved Häagen-Dazs and was going to drink it.
“So that’s what I started with. I would get two dozen donuts and eat them all. I really started putting on a few pounds.’
But he admitted he wasn’t comfortable with the experience, adding: “It’s fun for a week or, and then you feel awful, so I did that for a while.”
