The US arrests the leader of the Islamic State in a raid in Syria

The United States Military Command Center in the Middle East (CENTCOM), in cooperation with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), conducted a helicopter attack in eastern Syria to arrest a leader of the Islamic State armed group.

That officer, named Batar, was allegedly involved in “planning attacks on homeless prisons and manufacturing improvised explosive devices,” CENTCOM said in a statement.

The command center adds that the raid was the subject of extensive planning to ensure its success and states that no one was injured or killed in the operation.

This event comes two days after an Islamic State armed group officer, Hamza al-Homsi, was killed in another CENTCOM helicopter raid, this time in the north-east of the country, which left four American soldiers injured.
