The highlight of the world famous carnival in Brazil’s second largest city begins today in Rio de Janeiro with the parade of the best samba schools.
With elaborate costumes and floats that match their respective mottos, twelve samba schools with thousands of dancers and musicians will compete for the award for best performance until tomorrow at the sambodromo, which has capacity for over 70,000 spectators.
For the first time again without restrictions
After the coronavirus pandemic, Carnival in Rio will take place again this year without restrictions. In 2021 he was completely absent. In 2022, the parades were moved from February to April, but the large street parties known as blocks could not take place. This year, again, more than five million visitors are expected at around 400 parties. Hotels in the metropolis expect 95% occupancy for the Carnival weekend.
