ANSA Pope Francis warned this Saturday (18th) at a congress sponsored by the Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life that ideology is a “plague” in the Catholic Church.
“I know you spoke of the formation of lay people. At this point I would like to emphasize that training must be based on the mission and not just on theories, otherwise it will degenerate into ideologies. And it’s terrible, a plague. Ideology is a plague in the Church,” the Pope said in his speech.
Furthermore, Jorge Bergoglio said that “spiritual worldliness”, also called “clericalism”, is the “worst thing that can happen to the Church”, even more so than “the time of corrupt or concubine popes”.
“A priest or bishop who adopts this attitude does great harm to the Church. And even worse are the clericalized laity. Please, they are a plague in the church. Lay people must be lay people,” he added.
