The great response of this current edition is partly due to the fact that it took place in the old town of Bayamón. “Doing this event in Bayamón was an experiment, but it was also a very nice challenge. We had excellent transport coordination, both for the city train and for the trolleys, parking and cleaning. The city is so big that people could enjoy a city center unknown to most people.”, exposed Ruiz. “I think that the people who came here got a positive first impression of the city center, which has great historical value, and they got to know countless new spaces that were unknown. I think that was the great value of the day and we capped off the night with some quality artistic shows.”

The first edition of Campechada took place in November 2011, celebrating the life and work of José Campeche. The idea at the time was to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the government of Puerto Rico and the 200th anniversary of Campeche’s death, giving way to the annual celebration of that event.
The first five years were held in Old San Juan, but then they began moving the campechada to other communities on the island, including to Mayagüez, Ponce, Caguas and this year in Bayamón. As confirmed by Ruiz, the Campechada will be held in November this year in the municipality of San Germán, which celebrates its 500th anniversary this year.
