In an industry where divorce has become an epidemic, Kevin and Kyra exemplify stability and resilience, both as parents and as spouses. Such compliments don’t go without irritating the 57-year-old actress, however. “People say we’re living in a fairy tale, but there’s nothing more real than that,” Kyra said. We just love each other very much. I don’t think our relationship is more or less difficult than any other. I believe that partners should be fully committed and do whatever it takes to ensure the success of their marriage.”

Difficult beginnings
While Kyra and Kevin seemed destined to share their destinies, their first encounter on the set of the TV movie Lemon Sky in 1988 wasn’t easy. “She was amazing and very sexy,” recalls the 64-year-old comedian. I fell in love with her right away… and I didn’t like her right away!” In fact, Kyra has already admitted she was put off by his attitude, which she felt was overbearing. However, Kevin is not discouraged and eventually wins her heart. “I knew deep down that he was the one,” Kyra confirmed. She will marry Kevin a few months later and give birth to a boy, Travis, in 1989 and a girl, Sosie, in 1992. After generously dedicating herself to her children, Kyra will be more visible in Hollywood if she will agree to star in the 2005 series The Closer.

A golden rule
Despite their great bond, the couple suffered some setbacks, including when Kyra wanted to live in Manhattan full-time. Kevin insisted they move into their country home in Connecticut. “We made a big deal out of it,” the New Yorker said. We can be grumpy at times, but our fights are short and very rare. On the other hand, Kyra adds that they’re careful never to “go below the belt.”
