There will be changes at Volkswagen. While the brand needs to sell electric cars in Europe by 2035, it is already working on launching several new models. But that’s not why it’s forgetting existing cars as it prepares for the long-awaited redesign of its ID.3 four years after its launch, which has been complicated by a software issue.
Revelation on March 1st
Last December, the Wolfsburg-based manufacturer presented a series of sketches showing what this new variant would look like. Of course, the point is not to change everything, but to refresh the style of the electric compact that is qualified by the “second generation” brand. In program, a slightly revised front end with a new shield pierced with new air intakes, while the light signature does not change.
The rear will also benefit from a new design, especially with brand new taillights. And it is precisely these people who are talking about it today, when Volkswagen has just published a new teaser video on its LinkedIn page. This one then secretly reveals what those lights will look like, benefitting from a new pencil stroke. This remains quite discreet.
The bumper will also be slightly retouched, but no overall and final image of the car has been shown yet. Even so, it probably won’t be necessary to wait very long while Volkswagen announces an official unveiling on March 1st. A date that coincides with Investor Day organized by Tesla, where Tesla will most likely unveil its Model 2.
An electric compact car that could compete closely with that of Volkswagen, which was one of the best sellers in Europe last year, although it lagged behind the American company’s production. Have the two embarked on a real showdown while Volkswagen prepares to launch a new electric car to replace the combustion engine Golf? Without doubt.
deep changes
On board in particular, the new ID.3, which will also be available as an SUV, shows most of its developments. And for good reason, the infotainment system gets a complete overhaul, with a new 12-inch touchscreen replacing the previous 10-inch. After improving its mea culpa a bit regarding its software part, the brand plans to make it more practical by correcting certain bugs such as: B. the too many menus.
That’s not all, because the Volkswagen ID.3 will also be able to receive it Remote OTA Updates, like Tesla, Hyundai or Volvo. There is also a route planner, Traffic Assist and Park Assist as well as profile storage. The electric compact will continue to be based on the current MEB platform the new version will be inaugurated on the SUV variant to come next year.

So she shouldn’t take advantage of that Autonomy of 700 kilometers and charging power up to 200 kW. However, it could be revised slightly upwards, while peaking at 135 kW. As a reminder, the ID.3 is available in several versions, with Powers between 145 and 204 hp and 58 and 77 kW batteries offering a range of up to 545 kilometers on the WLTP cycle.
The first deliveries of the redesigned version are expected by the end of the year, while Volkswagen is already working on the launch of several other vehicles. Starting with an ultra-affordable city car called the ID.1 and ending with new versions of the ID. Buzz, including a sportier one and another with seven seats. An electric Tiguan would also be in the pipeline, as would an ID.7, announced at CES in Las Vegas.
