Heavy rains in Brazil

The number of dead on the north coast of the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo has risen to 45, and 49 people are missing because of heavy rain, the country’s media reported.

Rescue teams’ searches are mainly focused on neighborhoods in Sao Sebastiao, one of the areas hardest hit by the storm. About 2,500 people were evacuated from their homes.

The Sao Paulo government considers the tragedy one of the greatest in the region’s history. Governor Tarcísio de Freitas declared six cities a public state of disaster: Ubatuba, Sao Sebastiao, Caraguatatuba, Guarujá, Bertioga and Ilhabela.

This Monday, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel expressed his condolences to the Brazilian people for this tragedy through his official Twitter account.
