‘The Tower’, a short and wonderful British series

The Tower a short and wonderful British series

The first thing to say and praise about The Tower is that it is an interesting British series, the first season of which (available on HBO Max) is also told in three chapters, which is absolutely unusual in a usual area in in most cases to extend a property that is only justified for commercial reasons.

The second thing that stands out is the interpretation, led by a magnificent Gemma Whelan in the role of Sergeant Sarah Collins, responsible for deciphering the strange case of the Portland Tower in London, from the high roof of which an experienced police officer and a teenager have one rare case, because on the aforementioned terrace there are a five-year-old boy and a newly minted policeman, a key witness to the events, who will, however, disappear without explanation. Time later we will know the causes of the strange posture.

Third, the intelligent critical ability of a storyline written by Patrick Harbison based on Post Mortem, the first of the novels in The Tower trilogy, by Kate London should be highlighted. It doesn’t shy away from mundane scourges like racism or sexual harassment at the hands of some hypothetically innocent police officers who share their jobs with honest peers. Presumably civilized countries with established democracies where underdeveloped behaviors persist. Add to this a simple and functional performance by Jim Loach, the eldest of Ken Loach’s five children, from whom we suspect he inherited a flair for cinematic storytelling that strays from unnecessary visual representation. A director who has several feature films to his credit and another series, Life of Crime, also a detective and the bottom line is that La torre is a good series.
