Here is the first solar and bi-directional charger for electric cars – Futura

An American company is launching a solar charging station for electric vehicles. It generates energy to power a car, house or power grid.

The Californian company Enteligent is launching a charger for electric vehicles that combines a maximum of virtuoso technologies in terms of ecology and performance. This magical bollard draws its energy from solar panels. They could deliver up to 25kW of charge in DC, three times faster than a traditional charger. To achieve this, the charging station does not have to convert alternating current (AC) from the grid into direct current (DC) to charge the electric vehicle, but direct current at the charging station.

The conversion is only to get a higher output power. This avoids the energy loss from this AC to DC conversion. According to the manufacturer, the saving is 13%. An economy that allows to gain in charging speed and power.

Fewer losses, more performance

The terminal is also bi-directional with what is known as V2H and V2G capability. This means that it can supply the grid if necessary or help to make a house a little more self-sufficient in terms of energy. On the other hand, if the energy in the electric vehicle is sufficient, it is the car that transmits energy into the house via this connection. This combination of technologies would be unique in the world.

As always, this power of 25 kW remains to be qualified because we do not really know if the solar panel can provide enough kWh to be able to deliver it at the desired time.
