Sandu represents pro-European forces in the impoverished country. She sees Moldova threatened by the Russian war against Ukraine. She recently warned of a coup that Russia was preparing. Biden met Sandu in Warsaw on Tuesday and addressed her in his speech at the Royal Castle. “I am proud to stand beside her and the freedom-loving people of Moldova,” he said.
Heads of state and government of NATO members in Central and Eastern Europe want to discuss security in the region in view of the war in Ukraine with Biden on Wednesday afternoon. Participants are Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and the three Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
