A journalist and a 9-year-old girl were killed in a shooting on Wednesday, February 22, in Orlando, Florida. The 24-year-old reported from a location where a murder had occurred earlier in the day.
Another shootout. A journalist from the Spectrum News 13 television network and a 9-year-old girl were killed Wednesday, February 22, in Orlando, Fla., Sheriff John Mina announced at a news conference on Thursday.
The 24-year-old man reported himself near a crime scene where a homicide had taken place earlier Wednesday. A 20-year-old woman was shot dead there.
The journalist was the victim of a shooting in the morning, committed by a 19-year-old man who is also suspected of being the author of the young woman’s murder. The latter would then have entered a nearby house before opening fire on the 9-year-old girl, resulting in her death.
The girl’s mother and a colleague of the journalist were also reportedly struck by the shooting but survived their injuries, the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
“Armed force”
White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre tweeted her “thoughts” for the family of the slain journalist and the entire Spectrum News 13 team.
She added that “too many lives are being destroyed by gun violence.” Orlando County Sheriff John Mina confirmed that the arrested 19-year-old “was a suspect in the murder this morning and the shooting this afternoon.”
