A 19-year-old boy “accidentally” murdered his 14-year-old sister after shooting her dead in Miami-Dade, Florida.
Police identified the suspect as Keon Martavious Thornhill, while the victim was identified as Briana, Local10 reported.
After the young man’s confession, the grieving parents assured that the fateful event was an accident. “I shot him! There was an error. Take me in,” Thornhill told police officers, according to the arrest report.
The alleged accident occurred at a townhouse in the Mirage gated community at Sailboat Cove in Miami-Dade, where Briana sustained a gunshot wound to the face.
Neighbors called 911 to alert them to the presence of a man who, according to the police report, was knocking on the doors of various homes around 3 a.m. asking for help.
Thornhill is said to have told a neighbour, an off-duty officer from the Opa Locka Police Department, that her sister had been shot.
Miami-Dade Fire personnel arrived at the scene and pronounced the teenage boy dead inside the home.
The young man initially told police officers that he had a fight with his sister, gave her his gun and she shot herself; The suspect then made statements that were inconsistent with his original confession.

“There were four other brothers in the home at the time of the shooting,” said Detective Alvaro Zabaleta, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade Police Department.
Thornhill, her sister and their four children, aged 9 to 12, were home alone as their parents were at work.
Police officers spoke to several family members and no one knew there was a firearm in the home.
Records show police officers arrested Thornhill in July 2022 for stealing a car.
