The Brazilian government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva announced Thursday that it will allocate $1.36 million to rebuild São Sebastião after heavy rains hit São Paulo state.

The Ministry of Integration and Regional Development (MIDR) stated that “more than 7 million reais will be allocated for the purchase of baskets of basic groceries and cleaning supplies, personal hygiene and bedroom kits, as well as mattresses and fuel”.
In this sense, the ministry indicated that this measure will cover the assistance to more than 73,000 people, stressing that “further releases of funds to the municipalities of São Paulo are planned for the next few days”.

According to the head of the MIDR, Waldez Góes, he stressed that this action “will guarantee the continuity of humanitarian relief efforts while we work with the municipalities in the preparation and approval of work plans for restoration and reconstruction”.
At the same time, Góes reported that through Lula’s decision, we “activated the Brazilian Navy to put together the federal government’s working group to help the victims of the rains.”
