Julia Wendell claims to be Maddie McCann, who disappeared in 2007 at the age of 4 while vacationing in Portugal with her parents.
MISCELLANEOUS – It is a disappearance that has fascinated all of Europe for almost 20 years. A British girl who disappeared in Portugal, a German suspect… and now a Polish usurper? At least that’s what the police in Wrocław, southwestern Poland, believe.
In recent days, Julia Wendell has claimed to be Maddie McCann, who disappeared in 2007 at the age of 4 while on holiday in Portugal with her parents. Now 21 years old, Julia has created several accounts on social networks, in which she explains in particular that she has no memory of her childhood and suffers from post-traumatic amnesia after being the victim of a German pedophile.

But for the Polish police, the story doesn’t stick. “The investigation being conducted at this time contradicts the version presented by this young woman. Investigations are ongoing, but we can already rule out that this version is true,” Paweł Noga, spokesman for the Wrocław Provincial Police, which is coordinating the investigation, told news site Gazeta.pl.
According to the spokesman, Julia’s family presented documents that contradict the young woman’s version, in particular, her birth certificate.
The family speaks out
Julia’s family also spoke out on Wednesday to deny the version Julia published. “We have memories, we have photos […]. Obviously Julia isn’t Maddie,” her loved ones wrote in a statement, along with a photo of her at Maddie’s age when she disappeared. as you can see in the article above.

And her environment indicates that the young woman has been persecuted for several years because of psychiatric disorders: “Many therapies, medication, psychologists and psychiatrists – Julia made all of this available. She wasn’t left alone. But today Julia “left the house, she refuses treatment and does not take medication regularly. She also did not use the treatment option in a very good center in Poland, which agreed to take her.”
The family is dismayed – “We are shocked by the current situation […]. Julia’s threats against us, her lies and her manipulations… We saw it all and we tried to avoid explaining it to her” — and worries about how Julia is coping “with the inevitable” truth.
And as if those denials weren’t enough, the detective hired by Maddie’s family has himself determined that the Julia lead doesn’t fit. “Without knowing the details, it doesn’t fit. I don’t think it’s her,” Francisco Marco, a Spanish private investigator, told El Independiente newspaper.
