SAQ: no more disposable containers

The Société des Alcools du Québec (SAQ) will bid farewell to the single-use containers it used at festivals this coming June, it announced on Friday.

In total, nearly 400,000 pop-up SAQ Bistro glasses used at festivals will avoid the trash every year.

“Using this agreement is a tangible way to reduce our environmental impact while promoting local business. […] SAQ is proud to work with Cupko to reduce waste associated with its fundraising and sponsorship activities,” the “responsible” government body said in its press release.

Several festivals are already using reusable glasses, and SAQ hopes to expand their use to the 250 organizations and events it supports annually.

The proceeds from Bistros SAQ’s sales will be donated to the events they host, she said in her press release.
