The United Nations General Assembly has voted in a resolution condemning Russia for its invasion of Ukraine and demanding that Moscow withdraw its forces from Ukrainian territory. Thursday’s vote took place on the eve of the first anniversary of the war.

Csaba Korosi: “The result of the vote is as follows: 141 votes in favour, 7 against and 32 abstentions. Execution project A/ES-11/L.7 approved”.

China, India and South Africa were among 32 countries that abstained in Thursday’s vote. The Chinese Foreign Ministry has called for an end to sanctions against Russia and negotiations to end the war. Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said Thursday’s vote showed that not only powerful Western countries supported Ukraine’s resistance to Russian occupation.

Dmytro Kuleba: “This vote challenges the argument that countries in the Global South do not support Ukraine, as many countries representing Latin America, Africa and Asia voted in favor today [de la resolución]“.
