Maddie McCann case: Polish police disagree with Julia Wendell’s version who claims to be the girl

For a few days, a young German woman, Julia Wendell, has been claiming to be little Maddie McCann, that British girl whose disappearance in Portugal 16 years ago shook Europe. While the investigation is still ongoing, the Polish police have already indicated that they don’t really believe Juliet’s version.

The story does not stick with the Polish police. Julia Wendell, this young woman who claims to be Maddie McCann, a girl who disappeared in Portugal in 2007, continues to maintain her version despite the doubts expressed by the police.

According to Paweł Noga, spokesman for the Wrocław Provincial Police who is coordinating the search, “the investigations currently being conducted contradict the version put forward by this young woman. Investigations are ongoing, but we can already rule out that this version is true,” he told Gazeta.pl.

Physical Similarities

As a reminder, Julia Wendell, 21, of German origin and residing in Poland, claims to have reason to believe she is the missing girl. The young woman has noted disturbing physical resemblances to little Maddie, with birthmarks on her face and thigh that would be identical to the girl’s. Another strange fact: Julia has an eye patch that resembles that of Maddie’s ocular coloboma.

When Julia Wendell claims she is willing to undergo a DNA test to verify her statements, her family has already made it clear that they don’t believe the young woman. “For us as a family, it goes without saying that Julia is our daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin and niece-in-law. We have memories, we have photos,” say people close to her. In a press release shared on Facebook, the family said they were “devastated” by the situation and described a young woman who was suffering from psychiatric disorders. Her relatives finally handed over a birth certificate to the Polish judiciary, which is said to contradict the young woman’s version.
