DaBaby was hit with felonious battery charges last year stemming from alleged beatings during a music video shoot.
TMZ reports that property manager Gary Pagar has filed a lawsuit against the North Carolina rapper, alleging he sustained serious injuries while trying to stop a video shoot at his rental property.
Last December, DaBaby rented Pagar’s Los Angeles mansion for a week to shoot a music video. Pagar claims the rapper agreed to limit the number of guests to 12 during his stay. Visiting his property on December 2, Pagar found more than 40 people in the residence violating their lease.
As seen in video obtained by TMZ, Pagar was attacked while trying to resolve the situation when a member of the DaBaby crew pushed him to the ground. The rapper then allegedly punched Pagar in the mouth and knocked out a tooth.
Another man named Thankgod Awute then joined the beating before stealing Pagar’s phone to prevent him from calling the police. Awute was charged with robbery.
The news comes just days after new footage emerged of DaBaby’s fatal shooting of a 19-year-old at a North Carolina Walmart, contradicting his self-defense claim.
Per TMZ, the rapper’s lawyers denied that surveillance footage released by Rolling Stone, which was previously unseen, contradicted his self-defense narrative. Drew Findling and Marissa Goldberg, who both represent DaBaby, said footage of the shooting was reviewed by prosecutors back in 2018. They concluded that DaBaby acted in self-defense.
“Witnesses were interviewed and corroborated Mr. Kirk’s testimony,” the rapper’s legal team told the outlet. “All surveillance video was viewed and was determined to confirm Mr. Kirk’s testimony… Mr. Kirk was protecting himself and his family at the time of the shooting.”
