Ketchup helped him survive weeks at sea. Now Heinz wants to buy him a new boat

(CNN) The sailor who spent weeks lost at sea in January and survived mostly on ketchup could have a new, state-of-the-art boat coming to him.

And the pretty gift would be thanks to ketchup giant Heinz, who is trying to track down Elvis Francois.

The company posted an appeal on social media on Feb. 14 in hopes of tracking down the elusive Dominican seaman. According to Heinz’s social media, they have already contacted the government of Dominica, the island nation Francois is from, as well as the Colombian Navy, which rescued him northwest of Puerto Bolívar, Colombia.

But so far none of the attempts to find Francois have been successful, says Heinz.

So the ketchup dealer is now asking “the general public to help with the hunt,” according to a statement emailed to CNN.

“We are also asking for credible leads to contact Elvis so we can help cover a new boat with full navigation technology to avoid another disaster in the future,” the company added.

Heinz also suggested fans use the hashtag #FindTheKetchupBoatGuy to amplify their search.

Francois, 47, was repairing his boat near the Dutch part of Saint Martin island in December when his boat was towed out to sea. He told Colombian authorities he lacked the navigation skills to return to land and spent 24 days at sea. He survived on a bottle of ketchup, garlic powder, and Maggi bouillon cubes, which he mixed with water.

According to Colombian authorities, he was rescued after a plane spotted his sailing boat with “Help” engraved on its hull.
