‘I’m just getting older and flaccid’: Shania Twain, 57, describes the journey to loving her own body as she recalls her struggle with self-confidence
Shania Twain spoke candidly about being comfortable in her own body this week as she embraces natural aging.
The 57-year-old singer admitted that she has spoken out against cosmetic surgery and instead found ways to love her own skin rather than alter it.
But it wasn’t easy as she recalled struggling with confidence issues over the years.
Ever since she took the stage at the age of just eight, the Queen Of Country Pop has had to grapple with her evolving body changes while in the spotlight.
Speaking to The Mirror about the journey, Shania recalled considering a breast reduction when they grew taller in their teens – but she’s “glad” she never went through with it.

Shania admitted she sometimes chose to turn off the lights in her bedroom as she didn’t like her reflection.
But she opted for a confident nude photoshoot to get her mojo back, and she recalled “forcing” through time to successfully come out the other end.
The singer told The Mirror: “I’m saying you should look in the mirror and be okay with it. I’m just getting older and flabby – if I hate myself now, what state will I be in five or ten years?’
Shania began singing at a young age to provide for her family and went on to say that as a youngster she struggled with her changing body.
“When I was a teenager, my boobs got so big. I couldn’t stop her from bouncing, so I had to strap her in and wear two bras and loose clothing,” she explained.
Continuing: “I just didn’t want those boobs and thought I wanted a breast reduction but they’ve settled down. I thought, “It’s a good thing I didn’t. This is what I’m supposed to look like.”
The star always looks sensational in eye-catching ensembles whenever she takes the stage and doesn’t let age dull her fashion sense.
While Shania has previously spoken openly about her journey of self-love, last year she admitted she was embracing her “menopausal body.”
The singer told The Mirror: “I’m saying you should look in the mirror and be okay with it. I’m just getting older and flabby – if I hate myself now, what state will I be in five or ten years from now?
She even took the plunge and decided to go topless for the cover of her album Waking Up Dreaming, which was released on September 23.
And speaking to People after the bold move, the “Don’t Impress Me Much” singer exclaimed, “I’m more comfortable in my own skin than I’ve ever been.”
“I embrace my body as it changes, as I should have it from my childhood through my teens, from my toned 20’s and 30’s self to my menopausal body. I won’t be shy about it.
“I want to be brave and share that courage with others [album] Artwork I direct. Here I express my truth and I feel comfortable in my own skin. In this way, I share that trust,” she concluded.
