Garnet Hathaway bids farewell to Capitals and can’t wait to join Bruins

Garnet Hathaway will start his new NHL chapter with the Bruins after being traded to Boston from the Capitals on Thursday.

The forward has spent the last four seasons in Washington, where he was often a thorn in the side of the Bruins but provided the Capitals with a physical forward who can pose a threat to the bottom six.

Hathaway and Dmitry Orlov, traded to the Bruins for Craig Smith and a bevy of draft picks, flew to Vancouver to meet their new team ahead of the B’s game against the Canucks on Saturday night. Before the puck dropped, however, Hathaway took to Twitter Say goodbye to the capitals fanbase and expresses excitement for what’s next.

“Ever since my wife and I arrived in DC, it has felt like home. From Cap One to Medstar and everywhere in between. We created a lifetime of memories in those short years and that’s up to the people,” Hathaway wrote on Twitter. “It’s where we made lifelong friends, met selfless and brave first responders, and welcomed our two children into the world. It’s hard to say goodbye to the city, the fans, the Capitals organization, my friends, neighbors and teammates who all welcomed me as soon as I arrived. I will always be so grateful for how well we were treated. Thank you all.

“We can’t wait to join the Bruins! I grew up in Maine and it has always been a dream to wear the spoke B.”

It’s unclear if Hathaway will play Saturday night when the Bruins resume their road trip against the Canucks at 7 p.m. ET.
