According to the police, around 10,000 people demonstrated this Saturday (25th) in the center of the German capital Berlin to demand negotiations with Moscow instead of sending weapons to Ukraine.

Organized by farleft politician and member of the Bundestag Sahra Wagenknecht and journalist and feminist activist Alice Schwarzer, the demonstration with the slogan “Stand up for peace” was quite controversial, especially since several representatives of the extreme right also announced their participation.

The organizers spoke up in front of the Brandenburg Gate and called for “diplomacy instead of arms deliveries”.

On February 10, Wagenknecht and Schwarzer launched a petition entitled “Manifesto for Peace” on the Internet, which has already collected more than 645,000 signatures.

According to a spokesman for the Berlin police, further demonstrations with the same goal as well as counterdemonstrations have been announced. Due to the possibility of clashes, the security forces mobilized 1,400 agents.

On Friday, further demonstrations on the occasion of the first anniversary of the Russian attack on Ukraine gathered numerous people in Germany.
