In a televised statement, General Amirali Hajizadeh said Iran is still looking for ways to kill Donald Trump and Mike Pompeo, the respective former US President and former US Secretary of State. The information comes from the AFP. The Persian country seeks revenge for the death of General Qasem Soleimani, the target of a 2020 attack by US forces.

“We hope we can kill Trump, Pompeo, McKenzie and the military commanders who gave the order to kill Soleimani,” said General Hajizadeh, commander of the Revolutionary Guards Aerospace Forces. She is one of the arms of Iran’s ideological forces. The statement was televised on Friday (February 24).

Kenneth McKenzie is the former director of US Army Central Command in the Middle East. Soleimani was killed in a drone strike on January 3, 2020, almost three years ago. At that time, the entourage of the 62yearold soldier left Baghdad Airport in Iraq. About a year later, Trump left the US presidency when Democrat Joe Biden took over the White House.

Hajizadeh’s announcement preceded the program aired this Saturday (February 25) by Iranian state television about the launch of a “new Paveh cruise missile with a range of 1,650 kilometers”. The escalation of tensions between Tehran and Washington was precisely due to the advances in the Islamic Republic’s ballistic programs to increase the range of its projectiles, with the possibility of destabilizing the Middle East.

Iran is an enemy of Israel, the US’s most important ally in the region. After Soleimani’s death, thenPresident Donald Trump claimed the operation was in response to a series of attacks promoted by Tehran against US targets. Faced with the death of its general, the Persian country fired missiles at a US airbase in Iraq.

The topic continues to dominate the international debate in the region. Last September, President Ebrahim Rais addressed the UN with a photo of Soleimani in hand. He asked that Donald Trump be brought to justice over the action. “The Islamic Republic of Iran does not aspire to build or acquire nuclear weapons, and such weapons have no place in our doctrine,” the thenpresident said.

In 2018, Donald Trump withdrew the US from the Iran nuclear deal that the Persian country signed with the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. In addition to Germany, the group is formed by the United States with Great Britain, France, China and Russia. As a result, Washington again imposed sanctions on Tehran.
