Ghislaine Maxwell ‘will use £25million divorce money’ to file her appeal to have her 20-year sentence overturned on child sex trafficking charges

  • Ghislaine Maxwell will appeal to have her 20-year sentence overturned
  • She will claim that one of the jurors at her trial broke the law by calling his psychiatrist
  • Comes as she is expected to receive £25million from their divorce settlement

Ghislaine Maxwell is set to file her appeal this week to have her 20-year child trafficking sentence overturned, claiming one of the jurors who found her guilty broke the law by calling his psychiatrist during the trial.

The 20,000-word appeal must be filed with the US 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals in New York before Tuesday’s deadline.

The Mail On Sunday reported that the appeal – brought by Maxwell’s “Pitbull” attorney Arthur Aidala, who represented disgraced film mogul Harvey Weinstein – will focus on whether Juror 50 violated the judge’s order, not the case to discuss.

Her appeal is now awaited as her divorce papers are believed to have been filed with a US judge, which will give her access to some of her vast fortune, The Sun reported.

On the run, she transferred her money and real estate portfolio to her husband, Scott Borgerson.

Juror 50, who identified himself as Scotty David, also failed to disclose that he had been a victim of sexual abuse, a fact which he later said helped him “sway” other jurors during deliberations.

However, after the failure of their marriage, Mr. Borgerson refused to pay her legal fees.

It is believed she will receive £25million from their divorce settlement, which she is expected to use to appeal her conviction.

Speaking of the appeal, a source told the Mail On Sunday: “The jury admitted he called his psychiatrist during deliberations because he was so upset. This is in clear violation of the judge’s order not to discuss the case with anyone.

“It doesn’t matter that he called a doctor. He clearly broke the rules and broke the jury oath, which is strong grounds for an appeal.’

Maxwell’s attorneys have identified at least two other jurors who have also not disclosed that they were victims of sexual assault.

“Her lawyers will argue that Ms Maxwell was not tried by 12 fair and impartial juries,” the source added.
