4 Air Fryer Recipes to Try

Manon Lapierre, aka La petite bette, published the book last September Hot air fryer, 107 perfect recipes from appetizer to dessert, after testing more than 200 recipes in three months. Here are four from the book.

French toast with panko crust

  • Makes 4 slices
  • Bake: 200°C (400°F) – 7 to 8 minutes

INGREDIENTS

4 slices of very thick country bread

2 eggs

125 ml (1/2 cup) milk

2 TBSP. Sugar

1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

30 g (1/2 cup) panko breadcrumbs

Your choice of fresh fruit, powdered sugar and maple syrup, spray oil

PREPARATION

  • Preheat the device to 200°C (400°F).
  • In a bowl, whisk the eggs with the milk, sugar and vanilla.
  • Spread the breadcrumbs on a plate.
  • Place the bread slices in the egg mixture and leave to rest for about 1 minute.
  • Spread each side of the slices with breadcrumbs.
  • Spray the slices with some oil and then place them on an accessory rack or directly on the bottom of the basket.
  • Boil 4 minutes. Flip the slices and continue baking until the bread is golden brown.
  • Garnish with fruit, dust with powdered sugar and drizzle with maple syrup.

trick : The bread chosen for this recipe needs to be quite firm. A baguette cut diagonally or a nice loaf of bread from the day before will do, but don’t use square white bread as it will self-destruct when baking.

Sweet chili lime chickpeas

  • Makes 250ml (1 cup)
  • Bake: 200°C (400°F) – 15 minutes

INGREDIENTS

150g (1 cup) canned chickpeas, rinsed and drained

1 C. Olive Oil

2 TBSP. Tajin spice

Salt

PREPARATION

  • In a bowl, mix the chickpeas with the olive oil and the Tajin spice.
  • Place in the appliance’s cooking basket. Bake at 200°C (400°F) for 15 minutes, stirring halfway through cooking.
  • Salt to taste before serving.

trick : Tajin spice is a mixture of lime, paprika and sea salt. It can be found in several supermarkets in the Mexican products section.

Manon’s word : “It’s a recipe that’s doing the rounds on Air Fryer’s Facebook groups. It’s a healthy snack, filling because it’s a legume, super accessible and kids love it. »

Kaiser rolls with pork and shrimp

  • Makes 20 rolls
  • Bake: 190°C (375°F) – 12 minutes

INGREDIENTS

1 pack of 20 spring roll sheets, thawed in the refrigerator

2 TBSP. neutral oil (rapeseed or grapeseed oil) for brushing

1 C. Olive Oil

1 onion, chopped

1 garlic clove, chopped

450 g minced pork

225 g (8 oz) raw shrimp, peeled, deveined and chopped

3/4 tsp. salt (or to taste)

ground pepper

60 g (1 1/2 cups) rice vermicelli, cooked

olive oil

sauce

125 ml (1/2 cup) fish sauce (nuoc-mâm)

180 ml (3/4 cup) water

100 g (1/2 cup) sugar

60 ml (1/4 cup) lime juice

3 TBSP. white wine vinegar

1 garlic clove, pressed

2 carrots, grated

PREPARATION

  • In a pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Sauté onion and garlic for 1 to 2 minutes. Add the meat and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
  • Add the shrimp, salt, and pepper and cook over medium-high heat for a few more minutes, or until the meat and shrimp are tender. Adjust the spices as needed. Place in a bowl and add the vermicelli and mix gently.
  • On the work surface, lay out a diamond spring roll sheet (one point towards you). Add about 2 tbsp. tablespoons of filling on the dough. Fold the bottom tip over the filling first, then the sides. Roll up to the top point, enclosing the filling well. Do the other rolls in the same way.
  • Coat or spray rollers with oil. Place several in the simmering basket, leaving 1 to 2 cm (1/2 to 3/4 inch) between them. Bake at 190°C (375°F) for 12 minutes. If necessary, make several batches.
  • Meanwhile, mix all the sauce ingredients together in a bowl. Serve with the buns.

trick : For an extra crunch, wrap each kaiser roll in a lettuce leaf before tossing in the sauce.

Manon’s word : “It’s such a complicated recipe that we reserve for a special evening every six months. The first time I tested them in the air fryer was a revelation for me. Now I can do this every two weeks. »

Homemade buns

  • Makes 16 buns
  • Bake: 160°C (325°F) – 15 to 20 minutes

INGREDIENTS

250 ml (1 cup) lukewarm milk

20 g (1 heaped tbsp) sugar

5 g (2 teaspoons) active or instant dry yeast (Fleischmann’s style)

1 egg

60 g (1/4 cup) butter, softened

400 g (2 3/4 cups) all-purpose flour

1 C Salt

1 egg, beaten (or melted butter)

PREPARATION

  • In a large bowl, mix together warm milk, sugar, and yeast. If using traditional yeast, let it stand for about 10 minutes. If you are using instant yeast, skip to step 2 immediately.
  • First add the egg and softened butter, then the flour and salt. Mix everything together and knead by hand or with a machine (kneading brioche bread is always easier with a machine) for 8 to 10 minutes.
  • Place the dough in a buttered or oiled bowl. Cover with a damp cloth or cling film and leave to rise for about 1 hour (depending on the yeast used and room temperature).
  • Place the dough on a floured work surface. Roll into a long stick and divide into 16 portions. Shape each portion into a ball.
  • Oil the basket and sides of the air fryer. Place the balls directly into the simmering basket (if you’re using a sheet of parchment paper with holes, you’ll need to add a few more minutes to the cooking time).
  • Put the basket back into the hot air fryer (do not heat the device), close the drawer and leave to stand for approx. 45 minutes. As they grow, the balls stick together. IMPORTANT: Make two batches if the appliance capacity is less than 7 liters.
  • Brush balls with beaten egg or melted butter.
  • Bake at 160°C (325°F) for 15 to 20 minutes. If the bottom of the loaves seems undercooked (look carefully by lifting a corner), add a few minutes to the cooking time.
