Inside Susanna Reid’s Day: Good Morning Britain presenter wakes up at 3.40am before boarding a car in her pajamas and eating breakfast during the commercial breaks while she details her hectic schedule

She’s the face of morning television.

And Susanna Reid has revealed there’s a lot going on behind the scenes before viewers catch her on weekdays at 6am on ITV’s Good Morning Britain.

The 52-year-old TV presenter has given an overview of what an average day looks like for her during an interview with The Sunday Times magazine, which begins with a wake-up call from her alarm clock at 3.40am.

Susanna revealed that she takes five minutes in bed to check her email and the day’s headlines before getting up to start her day.

The mother-of-three said her day got off to a rushed start as she throws a coat over her pajamas and brushes her teeth before getting in the car that’s supposed to take her to the studio.

The time in the car is put to good use as she quickly catches up on the newspapers and interviewee briefings that are due on the show that day.

Susanna also takes the time to review the stories the researchers and producers compiled overnight.

She explained that the most important document she reviews on the trip is what she calls the grid, which contains dates and key points for the show.

Susanna admitted there was “a lot” to digest during the 25-minute drive from her home to the studio at the London Television Center in west London.

Susanna confessed she loves her early schedule, saying: “My three boys split their time between me and my ex. The great thing about my job is that they spend so much of my workday when they are still asleep and I am already home when they get back from school or work.”

Arriving at the studio, Susanna sits down to have her hair and make-up done by a professional while drinking her first coffee of the day at 4.25am.

She said she will continue to catch up on all readings for the show during this time.

Susanna added that she is then joined by the show’s night editor as well as her co-host for that particular day.

Her co-stars are Richard Madeley, Ed Balls, Rob Rinder, Martin Lewis, Ben Shephard or Adil Ray.

She joked just like Bruce Forsyth used to say, they’re all her favorites.

Susanna doesn’t manage to eat before the show but revealed she tries to sneak in some apple slices and sunflower seed butter during commercials.

As soon as the cameras stop rolling, Susanna goes home and tries to get a few hours of sleep before getting up for lunch.

She said she tries to have a healthy option like grilled fish and vegetables.

In the evening, Susanna relaxes by cooking a home-cooked meal for her sons, which she says is often something like lasagna or a roast.

This time isn’t for total relaxation, however, as she usually receives new briefings and exchanges views with her editor about the next day’s program.

While her lifestyle is perfect now, Susanna admitted she worries about what it will be like when her sons leave home.

She said: “My mornings are intense with the adrenaline of live news so it’s hard to switch off. I’m very happy with my own business – I talk to people all day, I have a great team and I love my close-knit family.

When the boys leave the house I know it’s going to be a challenge.

Susanna said she ends her day relaxing in front of the TV – “nothing cruel” and enjoys taking a bath to relax before turning off the lights at 10pm.

Good Morning Britain can be seen weekdays from 6am on ITV1 and ITVX
