Madonna’s oldest sibling, Anthony Ciccone, has died. He was 66.
Musician Joe Henry, who is married to Madonna’s sister Melanie Ciccone, made the sad announcement via Instagram on Saturday.
“My brother-in-law, Anthony Gerard Ciccone, left this terrestrial plane last night. I’ve known him since I was 15, in the spring of our lives in Michigan, so many years have passed now,” Henry, 62, captioned a black-and-white photo of his late family member.
“As Brother Dave Henry (who took this photograph) notes here, Anthony was a complex character; and God knows we’ve tangled in moments as true brothers can. But I loved him and understood him better than I sometimes wanted to admit.
Henry added that while “anger goes away,” the family remains – with “hands outstretched” across the table.
“Then farewell, Brother Anthony. I want to imagine that the God your blessed mother (and mine) believed in has you there, waiting to receive you,” he continued. “At least for today, let no one divert me from this vision.”

In December 2017, the Chron reported that Anthony had completed a program at a rehab facility and later reconnected with his family at home.

Years earlier, Anthony spoke out against Madonna and the rest of her family, accusing them of not caring for him.
“In their eyes I am a zero – a non-person. i’m embarrassed If I froze to death my family probably wouldn’t know or care for six months,” he told the Chron in 2011.
“My father would be very happy if I died from hypothermia, then he wouldn’t have to worry anymore. He’s old school, he grew up in the Depression,” he continued, before claiming he and the “Vogue” singer “never loved each other.”
“I never loved her, she never loved me. We never loved each other,” he claimed.
