Canadian film and television industry veteran Gordon Pinsent has died at the age of 92.

The actor, best known for starring in Sarah Polley’s drama Away From Her and numerous Canadian television shows, died in his sleep on Saturday, his family confirmed via Deadline.

“Gordon Pinsent’s daughters, Leah and Beverly, and his son, Barry, wish to announce the death of their father peacefully in his sleep today, with his family by his side,” read a note from actor Peter Keleghan, who was Pinsent’s son-in-law.

“Gordon was passionate about this country and its people, its purpose and its culture, to the point of his last breath,” he added.

Although Pinsent spent most of his career in Canadian productions, some of his best-known films were American productions, including the Norman Jewison-directed 1968 version of The Thomas Crown Affair and the classic blaxploitation film Blacula (1972), in which he starred a detective in the story of the vampire of the same name.
