The Government of Vietnam presented Dominican leader Miguel Mejía, General Secretary of the United Left Movement and Minister of Regional Integration, with the highest award for those who contribute to strengthening friendly relations of this country with other nations and political organizations of the world and his country.
In a ceremony at the headquarters of the Foreign Relations Commission of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, the renowned Dominican political leader accepted the award from the President of the aforementioned Commission and member of the ruling party’s Central Committee, Le Hoai Trung, who acknowledged the great services of Secretary General of MIU of strengthening relations between both parties and peoples.
Before the imposition of the important award, the Presidential Decree of the Vietnamese Government was read, which highlights the reasons for the decision to recognize a person who for several decades has been promoting friendships and relationships in various fields between the party and the Vietnamese state and the United Left Movement , which can present important results today.
He stresses that one of the results of Miguel Mejía’s persistent and constant work is that today the Dominican Republic has an embassy and a permanent ambassador in the area.
For his part, the Minister of Regional Integration thanked for the award, stressing that he had done a job without expecting any reward because, out of conviction and principles, he had worked with a dignified and heroic people who, like the Vietnamese, were an example in the World.
He explains that strengthening ties between the two peoples begins with the solidarity of former President Juan Bosch, who had no qualms in the middle of the Cold War in the 1960s, visiting Vietnam to express his solidarity with Commander Ho Chi Minh, and that these rehearsals were followed by the ex-presidents of the Dominican Liberation Party, founded by Bosch, Leonel Fernández and Danilo Medina.
He said that young Dominican President Luís Abinader Corona had the honor of inaugurating our country’s first embassy in Hanoi and appointing the first resident ambassador to this heroic nation, giving a transcendent impetus to strengthen those ties.
He valued the award very much, to highlight that he received it on behalf of all the people who, in one way or another, have contributed to the fact that today we have fluid and formal relations between the two states, which are in favor of their respective peoples will pay off .
