Malian Prime Minister Choguel Maïga traveled to Burkina Faso to strengthen ties between the two countries. Several cooperation agreements have been signed at the security and humanitarian level. Regarding the fight against terrorism, the two countries called for synergies between the different countries of the subregion. At the end of this trip, this Sunday, February 26, the Burkinabe ministerial delegate spoke to the Foreign Minister responsible for regional cooperation on the progress made in Ouagadougou and Bamako.
In the face of terrorism, the two states want to combine their efforts with those of the subregion and regret the retention and tightening of ECOWAS sanctions.
The two delegations noted the need to join efforts with those of the other countries in the subregion to tackle this scourge and called for synergy action at regional level to contain it. Regarding the issue of cooperation within sub-regional, regional and international bodies, the heads of delegations welcomed the convergence of views of the two heads of state on issues of common interest and deplored the maintenance and tightening of ECOWAS sanctions against the three countries in transition, namely Burkina Faso, the Republic of Mali and the Republic of Guinea, despite their plea for the lifting of said sanctions according to the conclusions of the tripartite meeting of foreign affairs ministers held in Ouagadougou on 8, 9 and November 2023, the two parties agreed to deepen reflections on the federation project .
