Following the murder of Hong Kong model Abby Choi, her ex-husband and two of his relatives were officially charged with murdering the 28-year-old today. The judge in charge refused to release the accused on bail. Choi’s same-aged ex-husband, brother and father now faces a life sentence.
Choi’s former mother-in-law was also accused of obstructing justice by destroying evidence. The judge adjourned the trial until May so that the investigation could be completed. A fifth suspect was arrested yesterday on suspicion of “assisting criminals”.
Parts of Choi’s remains were discovered in a fridge at a beachfront home. The police now assume that the model’s head, which they were still looking for on Saturday, is among the traces that were obtained.
Woman apparently attacked on her way home
Police officer Alan Chung said yesterday that police believe the model in the vehicle was attacked on the way home and was unconscious when they got there. According to investigators, the victim and her ex-husband’s family had financial disagreements.
Choi was reported missing for the first time on Wednesday. According to police, the family had previously lied to deceive investigators. Choi’s ex-husband was caught on Saturday trying to flee China’s SAR by boat.
