Belarusian ruler Alexander Lukashenko travels to China on a state visit on Tuesday. According to Chinese sources, Lukashenko will visit the country at the invitation of President Xi Jinping from February 28 to March 2. A spokeswoman for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday praised the “weatherproof and comprehensive” partnership with Belarus. China hopes to use the visit as an opportunity to further promote cooperation.

Lukashenko’s trip comes just days after the publication of a position paper by China on the war in Ukraine, in which Beijing reiterated its intention to be a neutral party and called for dialogue between the two sides. Lukashenko is a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
