The United States is seeking the approval of allies, particularly G7 members, to impose sanctions on China should Beijing provide military support to Russia in the war with Ukraine. This was reported by Portal, which cited four sources linked to the US government. The consultations, to be held in advance, are aimed at gaining the support of the most powerful countries and launching common sanctions. It’s unclear what kind of retaliation Washington might have in mind. So far, the United States has provided no evidence that Beijing is actually helping Moscow, but during a meeting in Munich with Chinese diplomat chief Wang Yi, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned against helping China provide lethal weapons to Russia.
