You might not know it, but Windows embeds (natively, basically) a utility that lets you troubleshoot a loved one’s PC remotely. Quick Support, that’s the name of this app, has been around for quite a while. In fact, Microsoft first introduced it in Windows XP.

Thanks to this application, you can connect to a third party’s machine from your PC to help them use their PC or control it for maintenance purposes. Setting up Quick Support is easy and within everyone’s reach. Here’s how.

1. Open Quick Help

Click Menu To startsearch forQuick support Windows and open it. Basically, the application is installed natively on all machines. However, it may not be available by default on some computers. If yes, you can download and install it for free by going to the dedicated page in Microsoft Store.

2. Generate a code for Quick Support

To help a loved one, click the button To help someone. It is likely that Windows will ask you to identify yourself with your Microsoft account. Once this step is complete, a security code should appear in the Quick Assist window. Copy the code and share it with the loved one whose machine you want to control.

3. Ask your loved one to enter the code

Then ask your loved one to open itQuick support on his machine and then enter the code you gave him in the field security code of the wizard and finally click the button Send.

4. Request remote PC control

At this point, you can’t control your loved one’s machine yet, just view the screen from your PC. You can then guide him (e.g. by phone) on the maintenance work he needs to carry out.

You can also take control of his PC right from your PC. To do this, click the button request control displayed at the top of the Quick Assist window.

Your loved one should then see a notification on their screen that says: ” YourName requests control “. He must then click the button Allow so you can take control of his PC.

5. Control the PC remotely

You are now in full control of your loved one’s remote PC. You can navigate from home using a mouse and keyboard, just like you would on your own computer.

If necessary, you can use the various tools available to you at the top of the window (laser pointer, chat, etc.) to interact with your interlocutor in real time.
