Federal Economy Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) wants to avoid particular difficulties for those affected by switching from oil and gas heating to environmentally friendly heating systems.
“If the old gas heater still works, it can stay. If it’s broken, you can fix it. If it can no longer be fixed, there are workable interim solutions,” Habeck told Wirtschaftswoche. But if something new is needed, “then you shouldn’t invest in old fossil systems anymore.”

The minister assured that citizens will not be left alone with the desired transition to the euro. “There must and will be support for low- and middle-income families,” explained Habeck. Anything that is proven to save carbon dioxide and protect the climate must “also receive tax breaks”.
The background is the discussion on a bill that provides stricter rules for the installation of new heating systems from 2024.
More on the warming debate:
Locking in energy prices This is how suppliers cheat annual consumption Lower ambient temperatures Keeping warm in times of crisis More wind turbines, more solar systems After all, this is how the energy turnaround is supposed to work
According to an agreement reached by the coalition in spring 2022, from 2024 all newly installed heating systems must be operated with 65% renewable energy. However, the transition details that are important to many landlords and tenants are yet to be determined. (dpa)
