After the earthquake that hit Syria and Turkey on February 6th, we students of the Iª “E. Campanini” we asked ourselves how we could help the affected population groups. So we immediately got to work and organized a fundraiser. These are our proposals: the first class would sell primroses delivered to us by the “Pascucci” nurseries, while the second and third classes would sell sweets. On February 14th and 16th we set up tables at the entrance to our school, take care of the presentation of the products, the sales counter and the erection of information signs. We decorated the seedlings by wrapping them and using a pinwheel we made, while we created decorations for the desserts to beautify the wrappers. Then, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., we took turns going down into the yard to devote ourselves to selling what we had prepared. The products were sold from a minimum bid of 5 euros and we were amazed by the generosity of those who took part in the initiative and even donated 20 euros for a primrose seedling! We were able to collect 1,500 euros.
The proceeds were donated to AVSI, a non-profit organization that runs humanitarian aid projects and has had a permanent presence in Syria since 2015. For us, every item sold was like a handout for the earthquake victims. We were happy to help, we are in it with all our hearts and we are happy. We were the first to be surprised. The Pope tells us: It is better for us to come out of our shell, because only when we come out can we see that it is possible.
