Death toll from train crash in Greece rises to 57

According to Leontari, the morgue this Thursday received 14 bodies rescued from the accident area, most of them charred.

The head of the forensic service of the city of Larisa, Rubini Leontari, reported this Thursday that there are already 57 dead after the train accident in Tempe, Greece.

Leontari said the morgue this Thursday received 14 bodies rescued from the crash zone, most of them charred.

Similarly, Member of the Greek Parliament Konstantinos Bogdanos stressed on his Twitter account that 56 people are still missing.

On the other hand, 57 people remain in hospital, six of them in intensive care.

Similarly, Greek government spokesman Yannis Ikonomu revealed that only nine bodies had been identified so far.

Ikonomu also acknowledged that in the section where the impact occurred, the railways’ safety systems were not working.

That day, almost 1,000 people gathered in Athens, the capital of Greece, to protest in front of Hellenic Train offices.
