Disneys Haunted Mansion movie comes to life in teaser trailer

Disney’s Haunted Mansion movie comes to life in teaser trailer starring Jamie Lee Curtis

(CNN) A classic Disney theme park attraction comes to life in the new teaser trailer for this summer’s movie Haunted Mansion, and looks like it’s up for some spooky thrills.

“This house has a way of pranking you,” says the film’s star, Rosario Dawson, in the clip the studio shared Thursday.

The film follows a mother-son duo, played by Dawson and newcomer Chase Dillion, who, according to Disney, hire a group of “so-called spiritual experts” to help evict a band of “supernatural squatters” from their new haunted house.

“This mansion is out of whack, it needs all the help it can get,” says Owen Wilson, who appears in a priest’s costume and plays a character named Kent.

The trailer features snippets of the mansion that fans of the iconic ride are sure to recognize, including sprawling hallways, flying objects, unearthed tombs and spooky figures, all while Roy Orbison’s “My House Without Windows” plays in the background.

Morbius star Jared Leto is set to play the hatbox ghost, a popular character who originally appeared in the debut of the Haunted Mansion attraction at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Park, but was discontinued due to technical difficulties. At the D23 fan convention in 2022, Disney announced that the hat box spirit would return to the attraction this year.

Other leading roles are played by Jamie Lee Curtis, Dan Levy, Danny DeVito and Tiffany Haddish. Curtis plays Madame Leota, a character whose séance room also features in the popular theme park attraction. The Oscar-nominated actress posted a photo of herself in her costume on Instagram on Thursday.

“Be careful, death is around every corner,” warns DeVito in the trailer.

The story of the legendary haunted house has already been told on screen. The original 2003 film, titled The Haunted Mansion, starred Eddie Murphy and Marsha Thomason.

Haunted Mansion hits theaters on July 28th.
