Borrell diplomatically sees a “small improvement” over Russia
European Foreign Minister Josep Borrell noted on Friday that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov remained in Indonesia, contrary to an earlier meeting when Western countries condemned Russia for its invasion during the G20 foreign ministers meeting.
“At least this time he stayed and listened. It’s a small improvement, but it’s important,” Borrell said at the Raisina Dialogue, a forum in New Delhi.
“I think it’s better than nothing,” added Borrell, who also expressed his opposition to Russia’s exclusion from the G20.
“We must retain the means to speak, or at least to listen, when we are not speaking,” he argued.

Russia condemns the incursion of Ukrainian “saboteurs” whom Putin calls “terrorists”.
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday denounced a “terrorist” attack after Moscow reported an incursion by Ukrainian “saboteurs” into a region of south-west Russia bordering Ukraine.
According to Russian authorities, two civilians were killed and an 11-year-old child injured after saboteurs opened fire on a car in the village of Lyubetchané, in the Bryansk region.
The Ukrainian Presidency has denied these allegations, calling them a “deliberate provocation” which it says is aimed at justifying the military offensive that Moscow has been waging in Ukraine for more than a year.
