War in Ukraine, live: “Extremely tense” situation in Bakhmout largely destroyed

  • Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday denounced a “terrorist” attack after Moscow reported an incursion of Ukrainian “saboteurs” into Bryansk Oblastin south-west Russia, border region with Ukraine.
  • According to CCTV footage An explosion was heard in Kolomna, a town about 100 kilometers southeast of Moscow, on Thursday. According to the Russian state news agency RIA Novosti, which quoted a representative of the regional emergency services, no signs of an explosion were detected.
  • The US announced new military aid to Ukraine on Friday, the White House said without giving details. “It will mainly contain ammunition for the systems that the Ukrainians already have,” said John Kirby, spokesman for the US executive branch on national security.

  • Kupyansk authorities on Thursday asked vulnerable groups – children, the disabled – to leave the placewhich is about a hundred kilometers south-east of Kharkiv, “due to the permanent bombardment of the territory by Russian forces”.
  • According to the governor of the Donetsk region, Pavlo Kyrylenko, around 5,000 people, including 37 children, still live in Bakhmoutin eastern Ukraine, although the city had a population of around 70,000 before the conflict broke out.
