The Die Hard actor was seen having coffee with two friends in Santa Monica, California on Thursday, according to photos and videos obtained by the Chron. He was dressed casually in jeans, a long-sleeved shirt and a cap.

Last year, the 67-year-old retired due to his battle with aphasia, a condition that caused his language skills to decline.

However, a joint statement by his family on February 16 confirmed that his condition had now progressed to dementia.

In a statement posted to the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration website last month, Bruce’s wife Emma Heming, ex-wife Demi Moore and five daughters expressed their deep appreciation for the love, support and stories they received, after sharing Willis’ original diagnosis.

“Today there is no cure for the disease, a reality that we hope will change in the years to come,” the family explained. “Bruce has always believed in using his voice in the world to help others and raise awareness of important issues, both public and private. We know in our hearts that if he could today, he would respond by drawing global attention to those who are also dealing with this debilitating disease and the impact it is having on so many people and their families. “
