Chychrun landed in Ottawa Wednesday in exchange for multiple draft picks after months of speculation.

“Negotiations took place within 24 hours,” Dorion stressed on Friday morning during TVA Sports’ special on the transaction deadline. Our first concrete offer was made on Tuesday evening and the exchange was completed on Wednesday around 6 p.m.

“It was a pretty quick process, but he’s had a lot of conversations with the Coyotes over the past 18 months.”

The Senators are deep in the playoff race, posting a four-point comeback against the New York Islanders, the second team drafted into the Eastern Conference.

“The players have sent us a message about their playing style, specifically the two games against Detroit [lundi et mardi], continued Dorion. The way they played in February showed us that they believe in the playoffs.

“It was very important for us to try to help them, especially on our defense side, especially with someone of Jakob Chychrun’s caliber. It’s something we felt we had to do.”
