World Baseball Classic 2023: When does it start?

The 2023 World Baseball Classic begins on March 8 in Taichung. However, due to time differences, in certain parts of the Caribbean, the 7th March and ends on March 21st with the final phase for the title in Miami.

  • Quarterfinal #1: 15th-16th March in Tokyo (winners and runners-up in Groups A and B)
  • Quarterfinal #2: 17th-18th March in Miami (winners and runners-up in Groups C and D)
  • Semifinals: March 19 and 20 in Miami
  • Championship game: March 21 in Miami

What is the new format of the 2023 World Baseball Classic?

This tournament will be in duplicate key, with a stage of all against all. In this first phase, the top two ranked teams in each group will enter an eight-team straight-through elimination system, i.e. Quarterfinals, Semifinals and Grand Finals in the city of Miami.

In addition, each team’s roster must consist of 30 players: 14 must be pitchers and at least 2 must be catchers.

World Baseball Classic 2023: the KO rule

The first round is won if a team is ahead by 10 or more runs after the seventh inning. If a group is leading by 15 runs or more after the fifth inning, it is the winner of the game.
