John Schneider’s men celebrated an 18-5 win over their Michigan rivals.
The chain landed in the fourth inning for the Tigers, who fielded three gunners and allowed 13 runs at bat that round. Outfielder Vinny Capra, author of a prolific second-inning sacrifice flight, had three of his seven RBIs in the fourth period.
Quebec’s Otto Lopez also had a lucky hand during the game. He reached home plate after each of his at-bats. In three record appearances, he hit two singles and enjoyed a free pass.
Cavan Biggio, Addison Barger, Nathan Lukes and Capra also contributed to the demolition work with two hits.
Of the seven pitchers employed by the Jays, only Thomas Hatch struggled, allowing five hits and three earned runs in an inning. Yimi Garcia was perfect in the third period, which allowed him to add the win to his tally.
-Also, star player Vladimir Guerrero Jr. decided to skip the World Baseball Classic, where he was set to represent the Dominican Republic. The 23-year-old slugger left Friday’s game with knee problems.
