Swedish businessman Lars Gunnar Broberg, husband of Marbella Mayor and People’s Party Senator Ángeles Muñoz, died this Saturday afternoon at the age of 79 in the Costa del Sol hospital, where he had been hospitalized for several days. The man, who has Alzheimer’s disease, had a delicate health condition that has been deteriorating in recent months. She has two children together with Muñoz, whom she remarried and with whom she lives in the city of Malaga.

Broberg’s name came to the fore in recent months after Judge Manuel García-Castellón indicted him along with his son Joakim Broberg – the offspring of a previous partner – on drug trafficking and money laundering charges last fall, following an investigation conducted by the National Court. According to the car, the father helped his son launder money from the sale of drugs. As early as January, a criminal court order had described the international network that allegedly had letterbox companies and conducted real estate transactions on the Costa del Sol, both of which were arrested in 2021.

However, Lars Gunnar Broberg’s case was stayed due to his poor health and inability to defend himself. The prosecution itself, in fact, temporarily refrained from bringing charges against him pending his development. The mayor’s stepson continues to be prosecuted. The National Court’s investigations have provoked constant controversy in Marbella City Hall and have become the weapon used by the PSOE against Muñoz in recent weeks in a clearly pre-election environment. And although the situation on the part of the People’s Party was uncomfortable, the mayor was confirmed as a candidate for the next municipal elections.

Shortly after it was revealed that Broberg was being prosecuted in the case, Ángeles Muñoz updated his Senate assets statement, a document that reflected that he owned all of the various properties, whereas previously he only owned half, just as happened at a house in Sweden. In fact, the House of Lords has opened an investigation to find out whether the mayor and senator violated the Cortes Generales’ code of conduct by not disclosing all of her assets, asking her a few days ago to make “clarifications” that she sees fit considers appropriate to know the legality of your estate.
